Booting problems

After recovery from hibernating XP pro refuses to boot. receiving the messages:
Window could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
system\DRIVERS\pci

Running setup with the win XP cd with r options or without r option it stop
with the messages:
Examining 194475 MB Disk 0 Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi...

Trying to boot with start diskette or with F8 safe boot ends with at dos
like bar at the bottom
of the screen.

What can I do.. I am running out of ideas

You might have to re-install WinXP over the top of the existing
installation.
