My mate had a problem with his harddrive, it wasnt getting detected at bios

so hes got a new one

and i went round trying to set up windows xp on his machine

okay so i went into bios put first bootup device as cd rom
stuck in his xp cd it goes past bios

primary master: maxtor ide

secondary master: dvd rom
secondary slave: lite on cdrw

so it goes past bios normally then goes to 'Veryfing DMI pool Data'

"Boot From Atapi cd-rom : failure"

"Disk Boot Failure: please insert system disk and click enter"

i trued messing around with these settings
but i coulndt get into xp setuup

im very sure his cd is bootable as i was the one that set up his xp last time and hes got the version since then xp pro

what do u suggest?

ive come across this problem be4 but i dont reemember how i got outa it!

thanks in advance

Had that problem myself.

I did the following and it worked for me.

Enter BIOS or hit F8 on start up set your boot formation as follows 1st boot C/D disable all the others when and if it sets up re-enter the BIOS then set 1st boot HDD 2nd C/D 3rd floppy [if you have one] and enable other boot seek.

Try by interchanging the two devices:
secondary master: lite on cdrw
secondary slave: dvd rom

!! Don't forget to change the jumps on the devices !!
