Sounds like a fine rule that you recommend to others.
How about applying it to yourself by becoming an
active contributor? So far you appear to be strong on
asking questions but inconspicuous when it comes to
helping other people solve their problems.

When I have an answer; I will.

And--- if I (as someone who has managed a 100+ person mainframe OS support
center) may say so, you do not have the temperament to do support.

OK, let me summarise your position:
- You frequently ask questions in newsgroups.
- You don't mind asking complete strangers to help you solve
your problems.
- If one of these strangers suggests that a poster should do
his own research first, then ask strangers for help, you
object.
- You cannot find the time to step into the shoes of a
volunteer to help others.

While your criticism has merit, it would have a lot more
punch if you made a bit of an effort to help others, same
as others have helped you in the past.
