Boot Up Problem

Yesterday I had a weird problem occure for the first time. The system
has been booting up with no problem since I got my new motherboard
motherboard 3 months ago but yesterday when I botted up it just hung
at the Black screen with the MS Windows Logo and the little blue bar
going back and forth. I did a shut down and tried again and it said to
go into the Bios and load the default settings. So I did this and all
was OK. It booted up.

Today I got the same thing and I had to load the Bios system defaults
again to get it to boot up.

Now I find that I have to do this every time I boot up.

Anyone got any idea how to fix this?

Sounds to me like the Bios isn't saving/storing your settings:

1) Are you sure you're saving the settings properly when exiting Bios?

2) If you are saving them and they are not being stored when the machine is off, could be the battery on the motherboard is dying. For what the battery costs it would be worth a try.

it could be a number
of things causing the issue
and you have only provided
one piece of the puzzle.

for example, perhaps
the resetting of the bios
can be an issue requiring
a bios update or maybe the
cmos battery is failing.

if the bios seems to be
not the cause, then perhaps
the physical harddisk is not
being recognized by the bios,
maybe the cables are a problem
and have jiggled loose.

(however, there is non microsoft
software that will install themselves
in the boot sector of the disk,
sometimes to protect the system
and other times to corrupt it).

if then the harddisk seems to
be nice and tight and stable,
then you might try booting with
your windows setup cd and
repairing your installation.

the emphasis is the word
"repair" and "not" replace
or install a parallel o.s, though
these are options as well.

here are the instructions
for the repair:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx

there is also some methods
involving the repair console
via your windows cd.
