Computer Boot up Problem

Hi,
When i start up my computer it goes through everything fine until right
before it gets to the Welcome screen (right after the Windows XP screen with
dashed lines in a loading bar). i tried going to the repair consol but for
some strange reason it is not there. i then tried the recovery consol and did
chkdsk /r and it said it fixed one or more problems but that didnt fix it
then i did FIXBOOT, BOOTCFG, FIXMBR i tried starting up in safe mode and it
froze when loading the file "gagp30kx.sys". i also tried loading from last
known good configurigation and i got the same black screen.
I tried booting up without the cd and before i got to the page with the
options to boot up it showed a little screen that said
"Invalid Boot Ini file
Boot from C:"
the thing is though that C is not the main hard drive its an extra one i had
that i install all my games on so is there a way to change the way it boots
up from C to D drive? or is there other problems?
Thanks
Tim

Tim:
Yes Tim, you've got "other problems"...

We'll assume at the outset that the HDD involved is non-defective and that
it's properly connected/configured/jumpered in your system, OK?

Unless you know this for certain, check your priority boot order setting in
your motherboard's BIOS to determine the setting is such that the system
will first boot from a bootable CD and not from a HDD, OK?

Insert your XP installation CD and boot. Then undertake a Repair install of
the OS. This is *not* the *first* repair option that takes you to the
Recovery Console. Do you know how to undertake a Repair install of the OS?
If you don't, do a Google search on "XP repair install". In the meantime
here are a few sites that contain step-by-step instructions...

Assuming the Repair install is successful, you should use your A-V program
to immediately check out your PC for any virus infestation. Also, you will
need to download/install *all* the MS critical updates since SP2. (I'm
assuming that if the Repair install is necessary, you will be undertaking it
with a XP CD that contains SP2). That, of course, is one of the downsides re
undertaking a Repair install. It's usually an onerous task to download all
the Critical Updates from MS especially if you have a dialup phone
connection rather than broadband.

install option. thats where my bigest problem is. is it possible to get
around that?
