Boot problem after AVG 7 upgrade

I am having a strange problem related to AVG 7. There are 4 computers in
our household and its my job to try to keep them running. Three of our
computers upgraded to AVG 7 without a problem. My one daughter's HP
Pavilion laptop (uses it at college) would no boot up in normal mode
after the upgrade. I see a blue error screen flash for a split second
very early during bootup, and then I get presented with a recovery
screen to boot up in safe mode. I eventually tried drastic measures such
as uninstall followed by going through the registry via regedit removing
all references to AVG6 and AVG7 followed by installing AVG7. I also
tried reinstalling AVG6 followed by AVG7 and the AVG7 install always
results in the same bootup failure (the AVG6 reinstall works fine). I
also tried installing a older version of AVG7 that I had previously
downloaded from the website from one of the other computers. My searches
didn't find anyone else having similar problems so the problem is likely
specific to this one computer. This computer has not exhibiting any
other strange behavior. Since may folks also speak highly of AVAST! in
light of my problems with AVG I thought I would give it a try. It
downloaded and installed fine on this computer. I did a full bootup scan
and no viruses were detected. Anyone have any thoughts on why AVG7 would
not work properly?

FWIW have you checked the FAQ page at grisoft.com? I had a tricky problem
that one of the answers led me to solve--it was in there, I just had to keep
digging. Good luck. Jack

Thanks for the pointer. Actually, the FAQ didn't have much info related
to my problem, but this lead me to the AVG Free forums located off of
the grisoft web page which have a wealth of info that did not surface in
my google searches. Looks like I am not alone in the problems I am
seeing. The first action will be to download the new Roxio CD driver. I
am not sure that this will fix my problem, but this computer is the only
one of the 4 that has Roxio installed. Another thread discussing safe
mode after reboot has not yet been solved. Unfortunately this sounds
closer to my problem. I will post any results assuming I go throught the
trouble of uninstalling AVAST! and reinstalling AVG for the sake of
understanding the problem. Currently I am satisfied with AVAST!.

From one former long term AVG user to another - stick with Avast!
