Boot failure -- need help

My desktop is XP Home SP2. I just reformatted the C drive and
reinstalled software. I was using Outlook 2000, hit
Control+Alt+Delete to see if another instance was running, and Bam!
The system crashed!

I have not been able to get it to boot up since. I have tried booting
from the XP CD; I chose "repair." In just one second, it said the
repair was finished. No joy.

Sometimes when I turn the system on, it immediately loads the BIOS
menu. Other times it loads a black screen with some information about
PCI configuration. No prompt.

I have two internal hard drives. I've tried changing the BIOS to boot
from the other hard drive. No joy.

Of course, I have AVG and Zone Alarm. I run a virus test and also run
Spybot S&D (updated) daily. (I have turned off Windows Firewall for
the time being).

Some of the error messages have included:
CPU frequency mismatch.
NTDLR missing
sparrow.sys missing

QUESTION: Can anybody suggest how I can get the computer to boot up,
either to the C drive or the slave hard drive?

QUESTION: What could have caused this?

Unplug power, remove battery, locate the boards CMOS jumper pin and
move it from 1-2 to 2-3 for .30 seconds or so,then back to 1-2,replace
battery,power up.You'll need to enter BIOS on start-up,reset date/time,
etc, install xp cd,set to boot to xp cd(boot device priority or similiar),once
at xp cd menu,id use recovery, select 1 for C: Press enter for password, type:
CHKDSK C: /R When its thru,type:EXIT Let xp start-up....

No, no, no, and no. Useless as usual, Andrew.(snip multipost)

Andrew, you give this stupid advice often. You must really be insane
because you've been repeatedly told not to do this, that you are
harming people, and you continue to do it.

To the OP: Andrew E. is a known troll who gives very flaky advice; at
his best it is completely off-base and at his worst would result in
people losing everything.

I replied to your post in detail in the other newsgroup to which you
posted. Short answer: you have hardware failure and this is not a
Windows issue. Go through hardware troubleshooting or take the machine
to a professional computer repair shop.

As for the multiposting, please read the information at this link which
will explain why multiposting is A Bad Thing and will get you *less*
help:
