I was copying files to a CD. Suddenly the computer shut down - I don't
know why. Now every time I start I'm shown "Boot Device" with 3
selections - Hard Drive C, CD-ROM/DVD and Diskette A. Whatever I pick it
momentarily shows "No bootable CD in Atapi CD-ROM" and then returns to
the Boot Device display. What can I do to get back to my Desktop?

Sorry if this is the wrong place/way to ask for help.

Using Windows XP Home Edition on a Compaq Presario 3000.

Start by making sure your hard drive has not failed or is not failing. Go
to the hard drive manufacturer's website, download their diagnostic tools,
make note of their instructions for use as well as making the boot floppy it
requires. Then follow their instructions and run the diagnostic.

Get the CD out of the CDrom drive. Then see if the computer boots normally.
