Bold Text Unbold Underline

How do I get bold text without bolding the underline for the text? I have
inherited a document that has bold text with unbold underline (which is what
I need) is some places in other places I can't bold the text without bolding
the underline. Some of these are bulleted items and some are not. One line
that I've found I can bold a few of the letters without bolding the
underline, but bolding other letters causes the underline to bold as well. I
need bold text without the underline being bold.
