Bogus IE6 default file path in XP Home?

Darro

I'm looking for advice on how to correct the configuration of Internet
Explorer 6 as the default web browser.

In the "Set Program Access and Default" function, the web browser
defaults to file "C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~1\IEXPLO~1.XEX".

The file extension looks bogus to me, and programs which automatically
use this path to gain access to the internet cannot get access to the
internet.

Can anyone tell me how to configure the default web browser to the
correct file path which I think is "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\iexplore.exe", or advise me as to what the problem is and how
to deal with it?

Thanks in advance for your helpful reply.

C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~1\IEXPLO~1.XEX

That is the correct path in DOS mode except for last "XEX". I assume that
is a typo and it is EXE

Thanks for your reply.
We both agree that it's likely the extension should be "exe".
I'm still looking for guidance on what steps I need to take to correct
the extension and/or configure the default web browser to the correct
file or file path.
