Upon login the screen says I have 2 unread messages. I
just changed my DSL service provider and my Email address
changed also. I verified my old AND new email boxes are
both empty. It says the emails are from my old account
but the messages have both been deleted by me. How to I
get the login window to stop showing I have 2 unread
messages? Thank you all in advance for any suggestions.
I've tried everything I could think of short of playing
with the system registry.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP!, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Repair - Unread Mail count will correct the count to zero: Its
Logon - Unread mail allows you to turn the matter off altogether
