blue screen sometimes at shutdown

For the last couple weeks I have been having two
intermittent problems with win-xp. After installing a new
cd-writer and the packet writing software the cd would
lock up. I called the company the cd-writer cane from they
were no help. I called the company that made the software
thet let me up grade to a newer version and admitted they
had been having trouble with win-xp. In the mean time I
ordered different software thinking it would be better it
locked up xp. So I am back to the upgrade of the software
that came with the cd-writer which was said to be xp
compatible. Sometimes xp hangs on startup and sometimes I
get a blue screen at shut down with some numbers.

What would you all try a new cdwriter with different
software? Where would you start?

Thanks Sammy Castagna

Did you completely uninstall the old cd-rw software before you installed
the new stuff? If not, I'd uninstall it, and the new program and
reinstall the new program. Also, after you've done that, disable the cd
recording built into Windows (right-click the drive, choose Recording,
etc.). And are you sure you jumpered the drive correctly? Most cd-rw
drives want to be master.
