Someone was helping me on an xp group and gave me a link to a page with
about 200 windows fixes and tweaks. messed up my computer last night
without being able to save anything and am doing a reinstall. If that sounds
familiar would someone give me the link.

Also I am having trouble reloading win xp pro it gets to installing sp1 from
windows update and says it can not find cretin files. I formatted the drive
it should be clean. Any advice.

As for your SP1 issue: Go to Start/Run: CMD

Type: Del C:\Windows\System32\CatRoot2\edb.log

Then try the update again.

Thanks you all are nice people.

I am doing the 3 install of xppro. It is saying it can not find files when
windows updater starts trying to install sp1 express. I thought I would try
picking archive files and see if it does any differently.

What do you think?
