I had a blue screen pop up on windows xp stating
something about RAM. Then the computer rebooted, I could
not access the internet. I ran some tests on my computer
such as norton and pc Doctor. Both of them stated that my
computer failed or test could not be completed. I went
into devise manager and the it would not open. I rebooted
again and got into the devise manager and the screen was
blank. I reinstalled all my drivers and my DSL modem
would not install. I finally repaired windows XP with
disk and still could not access the internet. I thought
it was my DSL modem that died. I got a laptop and plugged
it in to my mopdem and it worked fine. I reinstalled
windows XP. Now on boot up I am asked boot up windows xp
home or windows xp home. one is the old one that has the
register right but can not access the internet and the
other where I can access the internet but the register is
not set up right.

HELP
What is the easiest way to fix the problem? and how do I
fix it?

This sounds to me as if you *may* have two installations that are in two
different Windows folders. Make sure on that point before going
further.

First have Folder Options - View set to show Hidden files, and *not*
Hide Protected mode ones and make a copy of C:\boot.ini that you could
go back to, Edit that boot.ini in Notepad.

There each of those instances will have a line in each of the [boot
loader] and [operating systems] sections - something like
[boot loader]
timeout=3
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.001
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Home"
/fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.001="Windows XP Home"
/fastdetect

If you *do* have two distinct folders like that - WINDOWS and
WINDOWS.001 as examples, then you can delete one of the pairs of lines,
one in each section, and have only that system. Try it - if it is not
the one you want copy the original boot.ini back and edit again to have
the other one. When you are sure you have the one you want you can
delete the other Windows folder.

If they have the same folder, however, I think you have things crossed
up beyond safe repair; and need a new clean install. Back up all data
files, and perhaps use FAST to back up some items for transfer - read
Gary Woodruff's article on Files and settings Transfer at
http://aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm

Then boot the XP CD direct. Enter Setup, and after the license
agreement take New Install. When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC;
select and delete the current partition and make a new RAW one to be
formatted at the next stage

The important point is the delete. Without that it will just go ahead
and make a new install over the top of the old one - which is where I
think your troubles may have started
