Hi,

I recently installed a symantec trial product, which
failed installation, and quit abruptly.

Ever since then, everytime i attempt to shut down my
computer, i am greeted with a blue screan of death at the
last moment of the "logging off" message (when windows XP
is shutting down), and which says something like "there
was an error in SYMEVENT.SYS" and waits for approx. 30
seconds and restarts my computer, whereby asking me to run
Scan Disk every time, and after re-logging in, prompts me
that "Your system has recovered from a serious crash,
would you like to submit a bug report".

My system has also become very unstable, and always
presents those yellow bubbles in the System Tray
saying "Blah.blah is corrupted, please run ChkDisk".

At the first instance of me restarting after the failed
installation, scandisk was in a never ending frenzy
saying "* allocation unit <error message> <unit> will be
truncated" at a rate of around 50 times a second, and non
stop for about 2 hours; that is before i switched the
power off and on again, in which case it stopped and
booted up "normally".

How ever the blue screan of death is still present at
every attempted Shut Down or Restart, and causes great
instability everytime i switch my computer on.

Any ideas on how this can be fixed?

.
Have you done a system restore to a date back before
this bad program install ? Then you can also just try to
reinstall that same Symantec program but have most all
other programs closed out and not running. Then if needed
you may be able to use the add/remove programs to
uninstall it.

Hey j_10, it ought to be comforting to know that you are NOT rowing this boat
by yourself. I recently had to install a new mb and iniated a win-xp pro
repair, along with the famous F5 key ACPI choice. I downloaded their latest
update and still had the same problem. I wrote to Symantic last evening, and
am now awaiting a reply. I won't hold my breath for too long, but I will get
back with you when I get some answers.

P.S. If you have finally solved this problem please pass the solution on.
