Hello group
I had this problem with one PC run by Winxp sp3.
It says the application failed to initialize and windows is shutting
down. The it immediately shut down by itself.
IFrom what I remember I used the kaspersky virus removal tool to
remove some viruses and when uninstalled that is when the error
resulted and everytime I press the boot button, the PC starts normally
but when its finished booting it a command prompt box appears along
with the notice I mentioned that the application failed to initializes
and windows is shutting down.
Can anybody tell me how to resolve this problem.?
TIA

The primary purpose of virus scanners is to prevent your PC from getting
infected. Some of them can repair some of the damage done by viruses but
often they can't. Your machine appears to be compromised and your best bet
is to re-install Windows on a freshly formatted disk. You will then have to
re-install all applications. While doing this you will lose all data files.
Post again if you need instructions on how to save them prior to formatting
the disk.

I would like to know how to save data from this PC before formatting
the disk
I can't open the file as t he PC would just shut down when it has
finished boot up.

Here are three options:
a) Ask your friendly dealer to create a clone of the hard disk on some other
hard disk. Do this only if you can trust him.
b) Remove the disk, then install it in an external USB case. Now connect the
case to some other WinXP PC and save your data, including your EMail files.
c) Create yourself a Bart PE boot CD, then boot the machine with this CD.
Now copy our data files to a 2.5" disk in an external USB case.

I would prefer option c) because I could use the 2.5" disk as a permanent
backup medium later on after resolving the current problem. This is also a
good time to ask yourself why your PC was infected with several viruses. Do
you have a good and up-to-date virus scanner? Do you practise safe hex?

Hmm that particular computer was one of the work PC that was used by
my workmate, as I had to use his computer to use his files and
discovered that it was not well maintained with regards to
antimalwares that I had to clean it so that I can transfer some
relevant files to my external hard drive.
His AVG was not even updated and that is maybe the reason that it can
infected.
Anyway thanks for your suggestion..
BTW the one you mentioned about BART PE boot CD never did tried that
as well as making a clone of the drive. might worth a try but have
to think about it.
Regards
