blocked mouse pointer

I am unable to move my pointer from the left side of the monitor screen to
the right without making a circular motion.Meaning, if I click something on
the right and move towards the left it goes vertical only.No problem in the
opposite direction. This happens over and over again. There seems to be a
line or wall blocking it from continuing. I have Windows XPSP2 with
Microsoft Intellipoint 5.2 (P/S).All my updates are current including
Antivirus Software. I even upgraded at Microsoft's driver website from 4.0
to 4.2. I am perplexed as to what is happening and no other symptoms of
anything wrong with my PC. All my scans done in Safe Mode, show all folders
and system restore disabled.(Spybot,Adaware, and AntiVir). I double checked
the settings. The Dell rep told me to buy a new mouse because my
warranty/service contract had expired. I don't mind doing that , but not if
I can possibly correct the problem first. This may be pertinent-when I close
Windows I get this message"Generic Host Process for Win32 has encountered a
problem and has to close". Thanking you in
Advance..............................................

If it is the old 'ball' type mouse, try cleaning it.. there should be a
removable panel holding the ball in place.. remove and clean the rollers
inside..

Yes it was the old "ball" type.I had been blowing the outside of the
trackball(novice smile). I took it apart and indeed the two little rollers
needed cleaning. Put it back together and now works like first time use.
Thanks Mike!.......felt I did not need to buy a new mouse.
