Blank Space - Cannot Delete - MS Word 2003

Hi;
I have inheritted a document froma colleague which has a blank space within
it of around 5-6 lines. I cannot remove the blank space no matter what and it
is really noticeable.

I have checked for page breaks etc there are none. There are no characters
including space and carriage return. I cannot delete, cut or edit the space
it is just there, always.

Please could someone help remove it. I have tried pasting the text into
another document and the space re-appears. It is really, really frustrating.

I am not allowed to check personal emails from work so if you could email me
on (e-mail address removed) I would be very grateful.

Have you tried showing the hidden formatting symbols using the toolbar
button that looks like a back-to-front P? This should show if your
'empty' area has any formatting characters in it.

Also, does the 'empty' area have a different style to the other text
in the document? It may be that the selected style for that area has a
large paragraph spacing before or after it.

If you try cutting and pasting into notepad, does that still show the
'empty' space. This is not a solution just a means to identify the
problem.

With the insertion point in the paragraph above the space, go to Format |
Paragraph and check for Spacing After. If there is none, go to the paragraph
after the space and check for Spacing Before. (A quick way to tell which
paragraph has the spacing is to select each in turn; the one that has the
space will display that space as part of the selection.)
