blank pop up windows

Using ie6 and all pop up windows are appearing
blank/transparent. A friend advised that maybe my kids
have downloaded anti ad. pop-up software, and that this is
causing the problem. Is this possible, and if so, how do I
tell if the anti pop up software is installed and how to
delete it? Or is there some other unrelated problem? It's
definitely internet explorer, as netscape works fine, only
thing is my bank only runs on ie so I have to use ie at
least some of the time ...
