pop-ups hang

When I visit sites in Internet Explorer where I actually
want to see the pop-ups (including this newsgroup when I
want to write a message!) the pop-up window opens but
remains white (blank) and when I place the mouse cursor
within the pop-up window the hourglass icon appears. I
have left it for up to an hour and it remains in the same
state.

It happens on every site I go to where pop-ups are
necessary. I end up having to copy addresses from IE and
paste them into netscape so that I can access the pop-up
content.

I have uninstalled all anti-pop-up software and the google
search bar from my system and tried doing a re-install of
IE6, all to no avail.

I am using version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633 on
windows xp SP1

Any ideas?

use firefox from mozilla.org free and secure and check

Is the content cacheable? If so, check to see if you are seeing
a variation of the Red-X syndrome. E.g. some Red-X represent
cacheable content which is checked and verified but not rendered.

You could test for this case by setting Work Offline (Alt-F,W)
and then cloning the popup by pressing Ctrl-N. Typically the clone
does not have the same UI restrictions that the original popup is given
but you should at least be able to render its content more easily than
doing the copy-paste procedure you have described.
