Blank pages at end of print jobs

E

Erik Langeland

I have just set up a new Windows 2000 server (with SP 4) and I am
currently rolling it out to replace our older Windows 2000 server
(currently at SP 2). I have encountered the following problem with our
Xerox Phaser 860 printer:

The printer will print 2 blank pages at the end of each print job, but
only from Windows 98 clients and only through the new server. The
problem occurs with or without reloading the driver from the new server
(it occurs just by changing the port), but does not occur printing
directly from the server or from Windows XP clients. All settings
regarding separator pages are turned off, and it appears to me that all
settings are identical between the two servers. The problem does not
occur for any of our other printers or plotters (all HP devices).

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Hello,

This problem can be caused by some third party printer monitors.

1. Check the following registry key for third-party monitors. Remove any
non-default monitors:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors]

The default port monitors are:

AppleTalk Printing Devices (When Services for Macintosh is installed)
BJ Language Monitor
Local Port
PJL Language Monitor
Standard TCP/IP Port
USB Monitor
Windows NT Fax Monitor
** LPR Port

2. Check the following registry key for third-party print providers. Remove
any non-default print providers:

[KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers]

The default print providers are:

Internet Print Provider
LanMan Print Services

Thank you, this led me directly to the problem. We have 4 HP Monitors
that are presumably required for our HP JetDirect printers. Although the
same monitors are on both servers, I noticed that the Xerox printer is
listed under the "HP Standard TCP/IP Port" monitor on the new server,
but under "Standard TCP/IP Port" on the old server. I created a new
"Standard TCP/IP Port" and moved the Xerox to the new port, and now the
problem has disappeared.

Again, thank you for your help,

Erik Langeland
