Blank IE windows popup like popup ads

My clients Windows 98 laptop was riddled with trojan horse viruses and tons of spyware. I finally got all of the viruses out and I use spybot and spysweeper and cleaned out every bit of spyware they found. I did all the critical and recommended updates including IE 6 sp1 but I'm stuck with one problem.

After connecting to the internet and opening up a web page within 30 to 60 seconds a webpage window will open saying that the server can not be found. I close this page and within a minute another IE page will open only this one is completely blank. It doesn't matter if I close it or not after a few minutes I will have serveral of these blank pages open.

I'm now running zonealarm and a popup blocker and I still have the problem.

It even does it if my security settings are set to high.

I know it sure sounds like spyware but does anyone know how to get rid of it?

Sounds like there's still malware running on the machine.

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that

If that routine doesn't clean things up, go to
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm Work through steps 1-3, then post a
HijackThis log for analysis (step 4.)
