Black screen and pink/turquoise buttons.

Hi! I got a problem after installing SP2. It might not have anything to do
with SP2 though. Hardware, perhaps?

Computer:
1,9Ghz
700MB RAM
Nvidia Geforce2 MX 64mb, updated driver.
Windows XP SP2, fully updated.

Mainly when using IE, the screen frequently goes black for a second or two.
Picture then reappears. No clicking sound. This is most frequent when having
two or more IE windows open, and many images. The black screen usually kickes
in when i scroll down in the browser.

Also, many buttons are turning pink and turquoise.
No, i do not take drugs.
Especially the "Windows marketplace" button, "back" and the lower left
status bar on IE do this. The latter also tend to turn red for some seconds.
Minimizing and maximizing the window again solves the problem.

I have installed the newest drivers from NVidia without fixing it.

I installed a USB card yesterday, and did some
clean up at the same time. The processor on the graphics card was loaded with
dirt. At the moment, the problems is reduced. However, it still is a bit
irregular behaving when I start it up in the morning.

Could all this be due to a heat buildup in the graphics card processor?

Any idea anyone?

Regards,
Anders

Yes, this could be because your video card is dying. The usual
troubleshooting for this type of problem is:

1. You've already done step 1 which is to update video drivers.
2. Connect the machine to a different monitor. If the problem persists,
you know it is the video card. If the problem is gone, you know your
monitor is flaky.
3. Swap out the video card for a known-working one. If all is well,
replace the old video card.
