I am trying to update my BIOS. The automatic update
program i downloaded from Dell requieres me to copy files
to the A: drive and then reboot. However my A: drive
doesn't exactly work. So I burned the files onto a CD,
stuck it in the drive, and made it the first boot option
in the BIOS. This didn't work. Next, I started Widows
2000P and brought a command prompt, hoping I could just
run the proper file from here. This also did not work. My
question is... How do I boot directly to a command prompt
to run this file before Windows loads? Also, will the
drivers for my CD drive load so that I am able to run the
BIOS update program? Any information you can supply will
be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

You will need a DOS Boot floppy to boot and run these
files.

If you have no bootable floppies, visit http://www.bootdisk.com/
and download one -- create a bootable floppy (you will need
your floppy drive on this machine to operate.)

Building a bootable CD-ROM to run an arbitrary program is much
more difficult usually.
