bios settings for xp 2800

Hello, I hope someone can advise me

I have an Asus A7v600 motherboard and am having trouble
setting the correct speed for my cpu in the BIOS. If I
choose one of the preset numbers (2083 eg) that is close
to it's recommended speed, I often get unexpected system
hangs. I have tried to adjust it manually , but can't get
it to alter after saving and rebooting. More confusion
occurs becaude the bios says to turn off the systyem to
set the speed. It is now running at 1.66ghz with FSB
133/33?, the second fastest preset, which is very slow
considering it is supposed to run at aroung 2ghz. Please
can someone offer me suggestions for tweaking the
settings to get it to run at a decent speed close to
recommended that wont cause problems . The FSB for the
cpu is 333 but there is no equivalent that I can see in
the bios options. I have not had these difficulties with
the standard award bios which Asus does not use and I
would like to understand things a little better for
future changes.

First disconect the power, then remove the battery, after, clear the
CMOS,move the CMOS jumper pin from 1-2 to 2-3 for about 1 minute.
After move it back to 1-2 position, replace battery, start computer, enter BIOS,
set date,time,then exit page,select,load optimal settings,or load set-up
defaults,
then edit basic BIOS adjustments, save and exit BIOS.

Simply follow the instructions in the motherboard's manual to configure
the settings specified for that particular CPU.

Can't offer much help, bur there are several NG"s focusing on Asus products.
Check your ISP's news server for alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus, and
mainboards.asus. There is always www.asus.com .

Good luck,

Curt.
