CPU upgrade difficulty

Purchased new 2.4 GHz 400 FSB cpu to upgrade from 1.7GHz cpu -- but
when put in no video -- no beeps either -- when 1.7 cpu is put back in
-- goes directly to bios with cpu speed question, which it should with a
new cpu --almost seems that video does not work with this cpu. cpu id
is 2.40GHz/512/400, SL6S9 MALAY, Q313A266-8374. Is cpu bad or do I need
do look at something else? MB is asus P4S333 and stated to work with
above on asus website. Thanks.

Look at your motherboard manual.. section 2.7 deals with jumper settings for
the CPU..

How do I set for 2.4 GHZ -- does not go up that hi in manual?

Set the JEN jumper to 'jumper free', the default setting.. setting this to
jumper mode is done if you want to overclock the CPU, a practice that I have
never and will never recommend..

If after CPU installation, the computer does not beep once, you have a
problem with the CPU.. in a case like this, you should take it back from
whence you bought it and ask for a replacement, or take the whole system in
and ask for them to install it for you..
