what frightens me is a power surge during resizing a partition with

What in hell does that have to do with the original question? There must be
a full moon out. If most of you would RTFM and bother to understand any of
what your'e doing wordings like this wouldn't come about. Of course the
"look at me how smart I am" types would still be around.

You asked for advice, and you

You need to heed your own advice.
It is a pleasure working in the 98 general newsgroup because people
there are nice. Some people in this newsgroup are also nice but this
newsgroup seems to bring out the worst in people for some reason.

1. You need a "spill" checker.
2. You need more background on the power grid and how it works.
3. You gave no evidence to indicate that "lightening" hit even showed up on
your pole xfmr.
4. You're just being a (bad) egocentric in your posts.
5. Your language indicates that you are not what/who you claim to be.

Not true. A bios upgrade rarely updates the boot block. You CAN go back
in 95% or more of the cases of a fouled up bios flash. Fouled up bios
flashes are an extremely rare event.

I may be able to go back. But that's not the story here. Uhh, hmm, ISA
video card and all...
Fat chance for anyone with a recent PC.

And, as I, not you, stated, under the conditions I noted, I, not you,
wouldn't do it.

If you have recovery procedures under a fouled bios flash for the OP for
his/her specific PC, feel free to provide. I'll be watching in earnest.

PCI will do, should you be sans video. That's a really old article.

Another thing that works, is to do the re-flash blindly (as in sans
video). Which sucks. But it's just a matter of typing the right
commands. Not a fun procedure, but....

With Dell, it rarely overwrites the boot block (it'll warn you if it
has to), and you Can flash to previous revision. Since previous
revisions are stored on dell website. But.. it wasn't necessiary.

And you need to get real. You seem to be the one having a problem.

Evidence is not really needed. When my son, who happened to be 15 miles
away, lost power AND the paper stated that the power company lost 8
transformers because of lightening strikes which caused power outages to
that many people. Why do I need more backgound on how a power grid works.
If you are the expert, explain it in great detail here please. That way
everybody learns.
4. You're just being a (bad) egocentric in your posts.

Just explaining some of my background since you don't seem to realize there
are people out there that have done a lot of different things with their
lives.
5. Your language indicates that you are not what/who you claim to be.

In what language would you like me to write? This is the one that I have
been writing in for many years now. Just who or what do you claim to be.
I'm just a person trying to help others with an occasional post on this and
a few other NGs. I haven't seen many constructive comments from you on this
or the other NGs I read.

And its been fun trading these barbs back and forth but it is getting
tiresome.

Actually, the original question has been answered. I was asking advice
from LVTravel, considering that he is the cautious type..

It is not a full moon yet. Give it another 9 days.

And noted, you did not provide a bonafide recovery procedure. Just some
generalizations.
Age doesn't change the requirements for boot block recovery. And they're
not always the same for all PCs, if that particular PC has that ability as
is.
