Hi ,

I have Removed my Harddisk from my system and connected Compact Flash
Card using Compact Flash to IDE (CF/IDE) Adapter...

I installed Windows XP Home using cd..

At very first time it copies the setup files into flash drive and then
it asked me to restart. i did.

Then while starting it gives "DISK ERROR"...

I dont know why it is..

I am using BIOS of Dell's Optiplex 170L Series and its version is
A07...

Please help me....

You cannot boot XP from an external or flash drive. Why are you trying
to do this?

Fred Langa wrote another damn article on how to do it with
a Step-by-Step guide.

Thanks Fred - for opening another Can-of-Worms. Now we
will get to answer all the questions when it doesn't work.

Isn't he retired yet? Why not? ;-) If Fred Langa says it can be done,
then we simply send all the questions from users to him.

He is testing and learning new ways to hack into his employer's system.
If it works then he can carry CF card with him and hack into people's
systems and cause havocs!. Most systems don't have passwords on bios to
stop changing bootup process.

Not a good idea to teach anything to such people.

It HAS to be on the IDE subsystem AND that requires you open the box. If
you are that far, you already have the harddrive.

You'll need to use an OS that's been designed with the capability of
booting from an external device. WinXP cannot do this, by design.

Has Langa *ever* printed anything that's correct? If so, can anyone
confirm that he did so knowingly and intentionally?

Not to besmirch Paul Harvey, but Langa is like him in that he
repeats all the latest "Theories & Suppositions". If you read
his newsletter, most all his latest blurbs are from his readers
and a collection of "Tips-&-Tricks". At least Kim Komando
will dodge issues she knows are dangerous or are beyond her
experience. I think her "Universal Out" is the "It would take
too long to explain on the radio show......" Maybe Langa &
Komando should team up.
