I am now running my computer in safe mode so i can post
this. When i start my computer up (after 30 seconds) the
screen just goes colored or sometimes striped. No words or
cursor, just nothing. What could the problem be?

Also, i reinstalled XP a few months back and since i did
that i have no CD drive, I have all the updates ans that,
but when i put a CD in it will read the CD but nothing
happens, When i go to "my computer" there is no CD drive
for me to click on. So now i cant even reinsatal again,
please help...

You probably need to install the video drivers and cdrom
drivers for your computer. Since you reinstalled XP your
original drivers were lost. Check the website for the
manufacturer of your monitor and cdrom respectively for
updated drivers for XP. Although, technically these should
have been installed with XP, it is possible they are not
on Microsoft's compatibility list and therefore the CD
does not contain the correct drivers.

Another possibility is that your motherboard for your
computer is going bad. If your comptuer is under warranty,
then take your computer to the nearest dealer or
authorized repair shop. If you are out of warranty try
installing the correct drivers as mentioned above. Last
resort, take to a authorized dealer and pay the piper.

Possibly a viris infection, or a corrupted video driver
is affecting your display.
CD drives can get lost if multiple recording software
conflicts or if they are uninstalled but the registry
is not cleaned up properly. I'm thinking here of the
lower and upperfilters.

Hi Sheree,

Suggestions:

1. How to Troubleshoot Hardware and Software Driver Problems
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q322205

Try running the DirectX Tool: Start/Run/Dxdiag, Lower Hardware Acceleration
(Display/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot/Hardware Acceleration). Check
System Info for problematic issues: Start/Run/Msinfo32/Hardware Resources
and Components/Problem Devices and Software Environment/Windows Error
Reporting.

If none of the above applies, in Safe Mode go to Start/Run/Msconfig/
Boot.Ini and check off: /BaseVideo, reboot.

2. Save the file below to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it
and double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script
is done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.
