Best buy for ubuntu

Hi,

I want to built a pc which will work with ubuntu.I don't have
experience with building pc, this are my first steps so I hope someone
can help me. There are a lot of website with best buy topics but I
don't want to end with a system that does'nt work well with ubuntu.

Are there any good sites with best buys / configuration for ubuntu?

I've run it from a USB thumb drive plugged into my IBM T-42 laptop...

As long as you don't get any exotic hardware, you should have no problem. Any
mainstream MoBo, CPU, HD, DVD, and RAM should work. Check graphics cards/GPUs
mfgrs' sites for drivers before committing to a card.

Check Ubuntu forums for favorite setups to ensure you can use the 64-bit
version, if that is your intent. From there, pick your price/performance point.

You are building for linux. As long as you stay away from cutting edge, you
should be OK. When hardware is released, the drivers are for windows.
Several months later, someone will write the code to support it in linux.
But in general...choose a motherboard with a intel chipset (and intel chip
for networking), something less than $150 retail. Choose an nvidia chipset
video card less than $75 retail. Choose a CREATIVE brand sound card for
less than $50 retail.
If you follow those steps, you should be fine. -Dave

If you wanted an out-of-the-box experience, you could look
on the Dell site. The 530N is a desktop machine, for example,
that comes with Ubuntu installed on it. But even so, the installation
and operating is not seamless. Someone tried to update to the
next release, and had some small problems.

What's the idea of the price limits?

If this hardware is for linux, it doesn't need to be very powerful. Plus,
if you stick to the price limits, you will likely not end up with something
new enough to be a problem for linux use. KISS -Dave
