System specs for Ubuntu based PC

Hi!

I am looking at getting a new desktop PC and will make the switch to
full-time Ubuntu with this move. I am mildly concerned about issues
such as drivers and low-level compatibility with various hardware
components. I currently run Ubuntu 8.04 on an old Toshiba laptop and
used to dual-boot earlier versions of Ubuntu on my main (old) desktop.
While there has never been any major problems both uses have not been my
prime desktop PC.

I would be interested to hear what motherboards and add-on cards folks
are using with Ubuntu based PCs and what issues they have had.

Thanks in advance.

You might very easily get all the answers you need here, but if I were
you, I would ask in a Linux group. There are some fairly large Linux
groups.

alt.os.linux.ubuntu

Do you get that group? That one group is bigger than this group, and
there are generic Linux groups that are even bigger than that.

John,

Thanks for the tip; I've just done that.
