Battlefield 1942/Audigy 2

I just bought and installed Battlefield 1942:Secret Weapons of WWII after
having not played BF1942 for a while. After the game installed it updated
my previous BF1942 to the latest version. I have been unable to get the
game to load and play without an early lockup. Sometimes it is during the
intro movie, other times while loading the battlefield.

The only recent change I could think of (besides installing all of the
various Windows critical updates) was that I had upgraded my SB Live to an
SB Audigy 2. I ran all of the Creative and Direct X diagnostics and they
all passed. Then I tried running some other games like Combat Flight
Simulator III, Mechwarriors 4, and Star Trek Elite Force II. No problems
after playing for around 15 minutes each.

My system is a Dell Pentium 1.8 with 512 memory, a Geforce 4 Ti 4600 and
Windows XP. Anyone have any ideas or is there a known issue with BF1942?

Does the game have a 'safe mode' option? May be it's freaking out because
it's expecting a Live and getting an Audigy.

You're running the latest drivers for everything?

Thanks for the assist. Unfortunately, I pretty much tried out all the
routine latest drivers, directx, etc. None of these worked. I yanked out
the Audigy 2 and put the Live back in and everything works now. I have to
assume I have a defective Audigy 2.

I have the same problem - when starting up at the options
screen, as soon as I move the mouse pointer over any of
the options it quits to the desktop. The game was working
great until I installed a critical update for XP

If anyone knows the answer or how to uninstall the XP
update please let me know

Hi Paul,

All windows updates are listed in the Add-Remove
area of Control Panel if you want to uninstall them.
