bass and treble

I have a HP Pavilion ZD7000 laptop with XP Home SP2.

In my volume control
advanced
advanced controls for volume control

the bass and treble are greyed out. Can I activate these controls?

Not with the native XP volume/mixer controls. Many times the
drivers for the Sound card/chip provide support functions like
Mixer, Equalization & Spatial effects. These features are usually
accessed by a program group addition or you'll get a Startup
icon in your System tray.

I would check the HP support site for the latest driver package
for your sound card.

They are greyed out because your sound chipset doesn't support it.
