tinny sound

sound on system has suddenly gone very tinny, not sure what has happened but
have found that advanced volume control for bass and treble is now greyed
out, any advice on how to restore?

What is your sound card?
That happened to me with a Creative SBLive card. More like some environment
effects that took over making it sound tinny. I tryed the Creative 'restore
defaults' program to no effect. I wound up cleaning and re-seating my card
and finally un-installed and re-installed the drivers and software. Crappy
card.
It has been working since then though!
