Balloon Tips

Ron

Does anyone know how to get rid of the pesky "Balloon Tips" from the task
bar? I have tried "Tweak UI" and it won't turn the feature off. I have check
the registry and Tweak UI does change the "Enable Balloon Tips" value form 1
to 0 but they won't go away. I have tried changing the value from 1 to 0, 0
to 1, warm boot and cold boot, and they're still here.

Thanks, Ron

Warning--
If you remove the tooltips your day/date
(when you place cursor over clock) might also disappear.

This might work...........
-- Start
-- Control Panel
-- Folder Options
-- View tab
Scroll to the bottom and UNcheck:
Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items
Apply
OK

Hi Ron,

In microsoft.public.windowsxp.general you remarked...

You can't get rid of the pop-up tips you get when you
hover your cursor over the task bar and system tray
icons; all the others but not them.

I think you'll find that's the other way around. You can't get rid of popups
in other programmes but, while I'm not 100% sure about the taskbar, you can
create a registry key to ditch the sys tray popups.

Before messing in the Registry, Ron, make sure you have a System Restore
check
point.

Click Start/Run, type regedit, and hit OK. Go to the following registry
subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advance
d

Right-click an open space in the right pane and create a new DWORD value.
Name it EnableBalloonTips.

Double-click this new entry. In the dialogue box give it a hexadecimal value
of 0.
Exit and reboot.

Hope this helps,

Ed
