BAD_POOL_HEADER

A few weeks ago, the computer locked up and had to be rebooted.
Since then, Rhapsody and Retrospect Backup (during the catalog update) would
case the screen to black out and the system to reboot.

I removed the sound card (Audigy 2 ZS), the USB 2 card (Belkin), the video
card (ATI x700). Installed the OEM Nvidia MX400 video card and then did an in
place upgrade with a SP2 slipstream CD. The Video card, Sound Blaster card
and USB card were reinstalled one at at time. Media Player 10 had to be
reinstalled to get WMDRM to function. RealOne is OK, but I still cannot get
Rhapsody to reinstall correctly. The install program will not place the icon
in the quick start menu, and then when the program is started, after 30 sec
to 1 min, the screen will black out and the Blue Screen BAD_POOL_HEADER is
displayed.

I tried repairing WinXP Home after Rhapsody was installed. No luck.

Does anyone know what this error message is?

My next thought is to reinstall the entire OS.

The documentation for this error is pretty scanty, but what there is
indicates that it is a hardware or driver related problem.

1. Contact the tech support for your Rhapsody program and see if they
have any specific knowledge or advice about this error, as it is their
software that seems to trigger it.

2. Try using the verifier utility in Windows XP. Use Start - Run and
enter VERIFIER in the dialog box.
Choose the "Create Standard Settings" option and click on Next
Choose the "Automatically select unsigned drivers" option and click on
Next
Click on Finish and then shut down and restart the computer.

You will (hopefully) be presented with a new "Blue Screen Of Death"
STOP error message that will identify the specific driver and the
exact problem involved.

Note: You will have to reboot into Safe Mode or into "last known good
configuration" if you get the BSOD when running Verifier.

Good luck

Ron,

I'll try verifier later this weekend, when at my home computer.

Thank you for responding to the newsgroup post.
