Bad Pool Error on Dell Inspiron; suspect DVD player

I have an Inspiron 9300 with a NEC DVD ND6650A running Windows XP Media
Center SP3. Just recently I started running into problems when accessing the
DVD. I get a BAD POOL HEADER STOP:0X00000019 (0X00000020, 0X8547C048,
0X8547C060, 0X1A030001)
I have not recently installed any new software or hardware. I have been
using the TV tuner adapter that plugs into the USB port but have not had
problems with it.
When I put a DVD into the drive I don't have a problem. It's not until I
try to do something with it like format the DVD that I get the blue screen
and error.
I'm not sure if this points to a hardware problem or something else. I have
downloaded the most recent driver for the NEC and installed it.
I'm not sure what to do next and would welcome suggestions.

What DVD software are you using?

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

leading to the Stop Error. You may find nothing but it is worth looking.

A pool header issue is a problem with Windows memory allocation. Device
driver issues are probably the most common, but this can have diverse
causes including bad sectors or other disk write issues, and problems
with some routers. (By theory, RAM problems would be suspect for memory
pool issues, but I haven't been able to confirm this as a cause.)

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware, Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.
