Problems Burning a Self-Made DVD

Hey,

I recently used Nero Vision 4 to create a DVD with a title menu and 2
videos. The problem I am having is that the DVD I burn plays in any DVD
player but has a glitch where the image goes slightly fuzzy every few
seconds. The movies I burn into the compilation also either seize up or
completely lose sync between sound and picture.

My computer can handel itself well in nearly all situations. But I have had
this exact problem using 2 different DVD RW Drives: an NEC DVD RW ND-4571A
and an NEC DVD RW ND-4570. The video and sound always goes out of sync in
the exact same place on each file. I mixed the .nrg file down 3 times, and
each time the same.

The root files for the videos before placing them in Nero Vision 4 are "High
Definition PAL video .wmv" according to Windows Movie Maker. And they both
play perfectly in Windows Media Player.

Any ideas what is going wrong? It seems to me that the problem must occur
during the creation of the .nrg file??

Thanks a lot for any help at all!

Al,

How much memory do you have on your machine? What version of Windows
are you running? Have you tried un-installing all Nero products,
removing any DVD decoders/encoders and then re-installing?

I have 2 Gigs of DDR ram and I am running Windows XP completely up to date.

I havnt tried uninstalling all the Nero Products and decoders/encoders. To
be honest I dont keep track of which ones I have installed. Is there a
simple way to track them down? Also, do you have any recomendations for
which ones I should reinstal and where from?

Thanks...sorry for being a simpleton

Have you tried encoding your video in High Quality mode instead of Fast
Encoding mode? The Fast Encoding option could cause video to have more
playback problems then High Quality mode.

So then the problem is either with the encoding or the burning of the video.

Or you could be trying to burn your disk at too high of a speed. With
burning either video CDs or DVDs the higher the burn rate is the more
playback problems you will have. When burning video data myself I never burn
above 4x as it causes glitches in the video.

Although too high of a burn speed could be a factor, I would tend to think
that since your audio is out of sync with the video then you should try
setting the encoding options to High Quality and see if that makes a
difference. If that doesn't work then you could try another video encoding
program and see if you get the same results.

Do you mean encoding the .nrg image inside Nero Vision 4? Cause I dont get an
option about quality before the burn screen. I get Recording Settings...but
in that menu I can only choose the speed.

If you're using anything besides the Make Movie selection on the main screen
then you can change the encoding quality. To do this just press the "More>>"
button, click on Default Video Options, and if you're on the main screen
still then choose an output format (Super Video CD, DVD-Video, etc) and
change the Encoding Mode.

But I would also lower the burn speed in Record Settings to 4x also. And if
you burn it after you create your movie (like if you create your .nrg image
and then burn it in Nero Burning Rom) then I would also use the 4x burn
speed for that also.

Working with video generally puts a lot of strain on your system, so slower
burning speeds (either on the image end of it or the burning end of it)
lessen the strain and cause fewer video errors.

If you are encoding and burning your video at the same time (burning it from
Vision) then I would try breaking it up into a two step process - encode the
video in one step and then burn it in the second step in Burning Rom. Also,
when you are burning your video I generally wouldn't run any other programs
that create a lot of extra work for your system, as this can interfere with,
and cause errors in, burning your video.

If lower burning times help with the video problems then you can try going
back to Fast Encoding instead of High Quality Encoding and see if the audio
is out of sync from your video. If it isn't then it should be safe to keep
using Fast Encoding.
