Bad Performance

G

Gonzalo

hello, i would really apreciate if you could tell me why
games like battlefield, collin mc rae rally 3, simcity 4,
etc, cannot be ran with medium graphics, having a pentium
4 proccesor 1.7 ghz, 256 mb ram, geforce 2 Mx 400 64mb
AGP, 40 gb disk.

I bought this computer thinking that i would never have
mor problems for 1 or 2 years.
so i would like to know which is the problem... Do you
recommend me to buy a new video card like Geforce 4 440
agp??
or geforce fx 5200?
do you think that buying a new video card, these problems
would disappear??

thanks in advance.

The PC is fine, these days the MX400 video cards are old
and not very good performers. You might want to look for
a graphics card with a bit more power, like a Gf4 ti.

btw, i ran simcity 4 on a MX460 no trouble.

I hope you have the latest detonator drivers. Try running
at a lower resolution say 800 x 600 at 16 bit

You need an upgrade on your graphics card. Your system is
horribly imbalanced, especially if you like gaming.

For $100, I recommend a Geforce4Ti or a Geforce3 for a
little less.

Be advised that the Geforce4MX is the same thing as you
have now...it is NOT a geforce4 so don't get one. Avoid
the FX5200.

the only Geforce4's worth getting are the
Ti's...4200/4400/4600.

The Geforce4MX 440 is only a hair faster than what you
have...it is basically the same as the Geforce2MX. It was
very deceiving of Nvidia to give the MX a Geforce4
title...they are WAY below the Geforce4 Ti.

The FX5200 is SLOW. Very slow. I recommend the Geforce4
Ti 4200.

I know you bought your system with the hope of not
upgrading. I can tell you bought a branded one like
HP/compaq/whatever. They put the slowest cards they can
currently find in those. Gaming requires a better card,
especially for medium+ detail.
