i have to do a system restore to an earlier date but do
not want to lose any programs, kodak pics, etc., how do i
do a back up, do i need to buy a disc or something. thanks

Hi

System Restore is not a backup program and does not monitor data files. You
can backup/burn your data files to a CD/DVD with a 3rd party program such as
Nero - www.nero.com

System Restore preserves your files/folders. It might uninstall programmes
you just downloaded and try to install programmes you got rid of earlier.

The exception is things stored on the desktop. Generally, that goes back to
the previous setup, so if documents are stored on the desktop, they are
vulnerable (I'm not talking about the My Documents shortcut or any
user-created shortcuts, but actual documents and folders stored on the
desktop.)
