Backup utility

Paul Spannuth

I have Windows XP Pro and I have tried to use the backup
utility to burn a backup to by CR-RW. I get through the
wizard allmost all of the way and when I name my backup a
window pops us that says
The backup file name could not be used.
"E:\Backup.bkf"
Please insure it is a valid path, and that you have
sufficient access.
I have tried different names and it says the same thing.
Can Windows Backup be used with a CR-RW or a DVD-RW?
Thanks,
Paul

The inbuilt burning does not support use as an output medium from any
program - it is a CD-R not CD-RW method. See
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm.

Even if you get a third party packet writing program (eg I'd suggest
DLA), the supplied backup program will not recognise that the CD-RW is a
removable, and hence will not 'span' disks, thus making it of limited
use. I have succeeded in using it with DLA on a DVD disk (even though
DLA says no), but really you need a different program, such as
BackUpMyPC from www.stompinc.com
