Backup utility

I'm trying to do a system state backup using the backup
utility. I always get a failure no matter where I try to
backup (floppy, CD, DVD or a partition on my hard drive).
The log report says "error returned while creating volume
shadow copy". Also, the backup destination dropdown menu
is inactive (it's always set to "file". I've searched the
database, but haven't found anything helpful. Can anyone
help with this?

Are you certain that you want to backup just your system state? If so, use
system restore. That's what it does.

The native XP backup utility will not backup to CD/DVD at any rate.
