I think the reason I misunderstood is that I jumped into this in mid-thread
(and I know better).
I have a newly purchased Sony notebook and it has all of the original
programs stored as a "backup" by default on my hard drive should I need to
reinstall them..and it has the provision for making a boot disk as well.
Using the additional backup option in Vista, I save my files etc. If I need
to reinstall the entire system, I use the boot disk, reinstall the original
software from the Sony default program backup and then add my files from the
backup that I did. It's still not as good as I had with Ghost (but, as you
know, Ghost and Vista don't like each other)...but at least I can get up and
running again. And, the only programs I have to install are any updates
from the original programs and whatever additional programs I've installed
on my own. More time consuming and it doesn't cover everything but.... I
wonder why they didn't incorporate an image option in Vista? At least Sony
has a built in system backup (but not a mirror image of my current programs
and settings).
