I can't find the windows xp backup program. I know where
it's supposed to be but it isn't there. I know it's
called "ntbackup.exe" & have searched for it but it's not
there. I have been ripped off by microsoft - buying an
incomplete copy of windows xp - it actually came pre-
installed on my compaq computer.

thanks for any help

Hi Maggi,

If the computer you purchased is an OEM (from Dell,Compaq etc), they might
not ship the Operating System CD. (only restore cds) without valueadd
software. In that case, you can download ntbackup.msi from here:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

This article describes how to install Backup, which is included on the
"Retail" Windows XP CD-ROM in the Valueadd folder. To use Backup, you have
to install it manually.

Install Backup from the CD-ROM in Windows XP Home Edition

You have to install it:

If you have a rescue disk the valueadded folder may be on
it or your XP Disk, Mine was on disk #2

Insert the XP or Rescue CD, and run NTBACKUP.MSI program
from the folder D:\valueadd\msft\ntbackup

You can get a copy here;
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

In XP Home the ASR Floppy Disk does not work . It will NOT
backup to a CD. You can back up to
a folder on your hard drive then burn it to a CD

here is how to use it;

lol....... This one you can't blame on MS. They offer it
only as a added value for the home package. Go post the
same thing on the Compaq site , they are the ones who
ripped you off, If you were in fact. If you have rescue
disks have you searched them for the value added folder ??
