Windows backup isn't working (anymore).....

Hello, I'am from Holland, 60 years and I've a question about Windows backup.
If I'm making translationfaillures: I'm sorry for that.
I have XP Professional now with SP3 and used the built in backup
(ntbackup.exe). The program now no longer works: the only thing I get to see
is "the green beam with: busy to look for backupmedia"…
From a CD with XP Home I've activated ntbackup.msi: it doesn't work. I also
downloaded ntbackup installer, the installer replaces then in system32 the
existing ntbackup.exe file and… nothing. Then I've copied from another pc
with XP Professional the files ntbackup.exe, ntbackup.hlp and ntbackup.chm
and plced them in system32 and….nothing.
When I try to use the installation CD I've got the message that's an older
version than the current configuration, thus I am back in 2001 and I don't
want that .....
I suspect that there are somewhere also what dll's to use for the program,
but where?
The site of Microsoft Help and Support gives no other solutions and of
course I've also "Googleg" and tried system restore: without good results
however.
In the system logs and in the backup ** .log's was nothing that could help me.
Of course I know there are more backup programs, but I want to repair the
faillure and therefore place I my question here.

Let's take this in small steps.

1. Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}

2. Type these commands:
cd /d c:\windows\system32{Enter}
dir ntbackup.*{Enter}
You should get something like this:
Volume in drive C is CH-SYSTEM
Volume Serial Number is BFCE-EC74
Directory of C:\WINDOWS\system32
Wed 04/08/2004 01:56 1,200,128 ntbackup.exe
What is the date and the size of your file?

3. Type this command:
ntbackup.exe /?{Enter}
What do you get?

Hello Pegasus, thanks for your quick reaction!
I've tried to copy the DOS-windows in Word, but that didn't work, so I type
what i'
ve seen:

2
Volume in drive C is Schijf 80 GB
Volume Serial Number is 4046-E45D

Directory of C:\WINDOWS\system32

14-04-08 19:03 1,219,584 ntbackup.exe

3
C:|WINDOWS\system32>ntbackup.exe /?

C:|WINDOWS\system32>_

Nothing happened at point 3......., but maybe this is enough for you?

Hello everybody,

The problem has been solved. From another forum I've got a link (below) and
that was "the golden tip"; although it was meant for Windows 2000, it also
works voor me.
Thanks for thinking with me en helping me!
