Backup error

I get the following error report when I run NTBackup to backup my Windows XP
local files. What will be the possible cause?

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:Catastrophic failure
Aborting Backup.

Hi,
Start>Run>services.msc>ok
Scroll down to the "Volume Shadow Copy" service and make sure this
service is running.Enable if it's disabled, and next click "start".
