Backup and IE have encountered a problem and need to shut down

For over a year I have used backup once a month with no problem, but I
recently got Microsoft's latest updates and now backup will not run at all.
I had a similar problem about a year ago with IE. It now encounters a
problem about 10% of the time. I also updated Office2000 and tried to
install the PhotoDraw part. It will not run; but the rest of Office works
fine.

Is there any way to use the monitor in MMC or read any of the logs that
Windows creates or any other to find out what is happening and fix the
non-responding programs?????
I really need to get backup working.

You might get more help if you described what happens, or doesn't happen
with backup. Saying backup will not run at all doesn't give much
information as to the mechanism of failure, any error messages? How are you
running it? What happens when you do try to run it, etc.

There is no guarantee someone will have a solution (many people recommend
ditching ntbackup for a drive imaging program or other backup program) but
without describing the problem in more detail the odds are even smaller.
