I am not able to back up Quicken directly to the CD-RW
drive. Intuit Support says that I need third party
software to allow me to write directly to the CD. What
software do I need?

Karen:

Any good CD Writer software should be able to do it:

Nero = www.ahead.de or www.nero.com

EasyCD = www.roxio.com

Intuit is probably referring to using packet writing. That is
formatting the CD first and use a drag and drop method to move your
backup files to the CD. The software built into XP does not support
that method. However, both programs that I mentioned above do.

Good luck.

I would strongly recommend Acronis True Image which allows you to backup all
your system. It is the best and easiest to use system

XP inbuilt CD burning does not support using one as output medium from a
program. Either output to Hard drive, then back that file up to CD, or
use third party Packet Writing software:

Direct CD - aka Drag to Disk, part of the Easy CD Creator suite from
www.roxio.com

InCD with the Nero suite from www.nero.com

or if you do not want a complete suite I would go for
DLA from http://www.sonic.com/products/dla/features.asp ($29.99)

Karen,
I use to have trouble with Quicken writing to a Backup CD-RW disc in Windows
98, but with Windows XP home edition it works fine so far. I have no other
writing software than the Windows XP. I just click on Backup and then Browse
and select the CD-RW drive with the CD-RW in it and it overwrites the old
backed up file.
Keep trying. You have to use the CD-RW and not a CD-R disc.

If you are backing up directly to CD from Quicken, the whether you
realize it or not you have third-party packet-writing software on your
computer. XP can't do this without that other software.

You may not have put it there, but somebody did. This i guarantee!

You aare probably correct. I did have some other software on my computer
writing to the CD-RW. I guess that is how the Quicken started working. I wish
I could figure out how Quicken and Photoshow are able to write but I cannot
use the Windowx xp write by "send to" or copy/paste anymore.
