background color in a scientific poster (3' x 4') with dropped in

Hi--quick question: I have generated a single slide "poster" in powerpoint,
and have been trying to make a common background color for the entire poster
unsuccessfully. I have copied and pasted in slides from various
presentations as "figures" on this one large slide, but when I try to change
the background to some color (say green), the individual slides stay the same
color (white), and you can see the original slides, which looks very bad and
unprofessional. I know that if I copy and "paste special" the slides as
jpegs (very low quality, distorted text and figures), I can select the
background color and set it as a transparent color, so that the background
for the poster shows through, but this function isn't available when you copy
and paste slides in as slides (much clearer and better for printing). Does
anyone out there know how to make it so that I can use the slides instead of
jpegs, and still have a colorful background? Thanks so much!!

Two things to try:

1) Doubleclick one of the pasted slides. It may open as a new presentation;
there you can change the background to suit your needs, then exit and return to
the main presentation with the slide copy there updated.

2) Ungroup the pasted slide. You may need to ungroup several times but you
should eventually get to the point where you can select and delete the b/g
object of the individual slide (or just change it to whatever you want)
