Back Rev SP4

M

Martin

I need to get SP4 off of my PC as I it is incompatible
with an application that is needed. When sp4 was installed
the back rev option was not selected so there appears to
be no easy way to get SP4 off the system. Will re-
installing Windows 2000 or repairing Windows 2000 with the
installation CD back rev the Operating system to where it
is considered not to be SP4.

Thanks.

Hi Martin,

You can do an in-place upgrade (repair installation)

An in-place upgrade:

- Rolls back any hotfixes, service packs, and Microsoft Internet
Explorer upgrades to their base versions.

- Refreshes the registry and restores default registry values.

- Reapplies default permissions.

- Reregisters Component Object Model (COM) components and Windows File
Protection (WFP) files.

- Reenumerates Plug and Play devices, including the hardware
abstraction layer (HAL).

- Reenumerates and changes drive letters, based on the current drives and
partitions that are seen during the in-place upgrade and on the rules that
are documented in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

KBLink:234048.KB.EN-US: How Windows 2000 Assigns, Reserves, and Stores
Drive Letters
